Eye for a close-up

Picture Info: Co0lpix 4500, 19.3mm, 1 s, f/3.8

I have always mused about my addiction to macros. What is it about looking closer at common objects that makes them special?
I recently came across this art of 'micro' photography that looks at everyday things under the very unique eye of the microscope at the molecular level. Check out the photo galleries on this site. http://molecularexpressions.com/

Flow

Picture Info: Coolpix4500, 1 sec, f/8.9
OK! Back to blogging! Hopefully the flow of pictures this time is as rapid as the one above...
To rejuvenate myself from the slump in creativity, I took quite a few vacations the last 2 months and one of them landed me in Niagara Falls. WOW!!!
I was testing my metering for some night shots of the falls when I clicked this one of the American Rapids. When I saw this on the computer, I was pretty impressed with the output (though now I want to go back there and try the same shot with a different exposure and aperture).
Hey! it's a start...so here's to a small start to what I hope is the Niagara of my photography!

Your move...

Work has been very consuming, both time and energy. My posting frequency has reduced to a mere one a week!
I should really find sometime to exercise my brain...There's poker...But maybe I should start Chess too...

Pensive

Picture info: Coolpix4500, 30.9mm, 1/90 s, f/5

The same guy from last week. He was not camera shy at all, huh? Let me get very close to him and at times got pretty close to me forcing me to back away. Here he is pensive, looking yonder, thinking about what he has done in life so far and what lies ahead....

The half full glass

Picture info: Coolpix4500, 24.9mm, 1/140s, f/5.6

I have never tried capturing a butterfly before. This was my first attempt and sadly my only shot at it. The butterfly was posing just fine...My first click was not timed properly and I could not catch it with its wings fully open. I was just about click my next shot when this noisy, annoying kid walked behind me and scared my model away! :(

Atleast I got this; half-open (or half-closed?).

(I have been experimenting just too much with my template and the picture sizes. Hopefully this should stick.
Got suggestions? Please let me know)

This little fella actually scared me...He kept staring at the camera, threatening to pounce on me!
I have more of his friends and cousins coming up this week;)

Reflected Clarity

Picture info: Coolpix 4500, 7.8mm, 1/300 s, f/7.5

Thanks for the comments on the previous post and aplogies for the very infrequent posting!
This picture was taken in the same lake as the previous post (the past...). Manzanita Lake in Lassen Volcanic National Park. I was very happy to find this shot...a much better version of my previous Reflections.

And regarding the previous post, as Timmybomb pointed out, the contrast might be dull. That was intentional...I wanted to show the foreground (the present...) as dark and dead as possible and the background (the past with the alive and healthy trees) in a relatively bright light. That was the effect I was trying to bring out...

Just Chilling!

From last weekend's trip to the crater lake. Apparently we were the only ones let down by the weather. This winged friend was fine with the snow, so were his friends who were having so much fun they did not care to stop for a picture. (right behind this fella is where the 'deep blue' Crater Lake supposedly exists!)

Picture Perfect

Our Memorial weekend was spent with a trip to Northern CA and Oregon. This picture was taken en route to Crater Lake, OR. We met up with some unexpected wicked weather and got to see nothing of the lake, but the drive on highway 97 was just Picture Perfect!

Budding

Nothing extra-ordinary about this shot. At first I did not know what it was...later found out this was actually a budding pine cone.

Finally!!! a long weekend after a long time! I will be gone for a few days and hoping to get back with some shots that SPEAK!!!

Sharp and Flat

Help Me!!! I am going through a severe case of 'Macromania'. This is my 42nd post and my 19th Macro!!! Is there a cure?

(for those going 'eh???' over the title, I have focused on the F sharp/ G flat note on my Piano)

A path to somewhere...

This was taken a couple of months back, when it snowed in the Bay Area, CA...which is rather unusual for this part of California.
A short hike to Mission Peak and this was the sight that welcomed me.
A Panorama...

Update: May 04
Went by Ashwin's suggestion and bumped the saturation a little bit....
The grass is greener and the sky is bluer! Thanks Ashwin

Where are the footprints, God?

"Dear God,
Last year when I was in Death Valley, I was feeling burdened; I was sad. So I walked in the sand to see if you were with me.
Then I turned back expecting to see 2 sets of footprints, or atleast one based on the story I have heard so many times.
I was shocked!
There were no footsteps. What happened God?"
